A crossroads in the live oaks
Forestburg is at the meeting of Farm Roads 455, 1655, 922 and 677 in southeastern Montague County. TSHA says cattlemen settled the area in the early 1850s, and that Levi Perryman started a large ranch there in 1859, part of which became the Bar C Ranch. The settlement was first called Horn Hill, then Forest Hill for the grove of live oaks, and became Forestburg when the post office application was rejected because another Forest Hill existed. The post office opened in 1876.
It's still ranch country. Roofs here are ranch houses, barns, hay sheds and shops. Where trees grow close to a roof, falling limbs and leaf debris are worth planning for during a re-roof.
Storms in Montague County
NOAA doesn't key any hail report to Forestburg by name. Montague County as a whole logged 25 reports of golf-ball-size or larger hail from 2016 through mid-2026, including 4- to 4.5-inch hail around St. Jo and Capps Corners on May 19, 2025.
