A fast-growing county seat
Decatur is the Wise County seat, and it's growing faster than almost any town around it. Census estimates put it at 6,554 residents in the 2020 base and about 9,029 in 2025, roughly 38% growth. That means new subdivisions with builder-grade roofs reaching their first replacement, alongside older homes near the square and acreage properties on the edges of town.
New-construction roofs are where our Class 3-or-better rule matters most. Many builder-grade shingles have no impact rating. When those roofs come due, or a hailstorm takes them out early, we replace them with impact-rated shingles. That's Class 3 at minimum, and Class 4 if your insurer gives a credit for it.
Storms near Decatur
NOAA recorded 2-inch hail at Decatur on March 26, 2017. More recently, it recorded 3-inch hail at Boyd on April 8, 2024, about seven miles south of town. Hail damage often hides on shingles, so after any storm near you, a free on-roof inspection with photos is the reliable way to know. See storm & hail inspections.
What we do in and around Decatur
- Re-roofs on newer subdivision homes with designer or Class 4 shingles
- Standing seam and stone-coated steel on custom and acreage homes
- Shop, barn and barndominium roofs, new and re-roofs
- Commercial roofs for local businesses and property owners

Metal roofing in Decatur: our first recommendation on many homes
If you ask us what roof we'd put on a Decatur home that's on its second or third hail claim, the answer is often metal. We form our standing seam panels in-house on our own roll formers and standing seam machine, and our own crew installs them. We install standing seam and R-panel in 24 or 26 gauge steel. Panels are cut to the length of each roof plane, so there are fewer laps, cleaner hips and valleys, and no waiting on an outside panel shop.
- Standing seam in Decatur: hidden fasteners and clean lines for custom homes, HOA neighborhoods and acreage homes.
- All metal roofing in Decatur: R-panel and PBR for shops and barns, plus stone-coated steel and metal shingles.
- Metal roofing across Wise County from all three of our offices.
Choosing between panel types? Our standing seam vs. R-panel guide for Decatur ranch homes and 26 vs. 29 gauge cover the two biggest decisions.
High-end and specialty roofs
Large custom homes, estates and complex roofs are where our experience shows. Owner Blake Snow has 30 years of roofing experience and is the third generation in a family roofing business that goes back 75 years. In total he has completed over $80 million in roofing projects. Beyond metal, we install designer and luxury shingles, slate- and shake-look roofs, and synthetic shake and slate, along with standing seam accents over porches and entries.
Flat and low-slope roofs near Decatur
One of our documented Decatur-area jobs is a white TPO flat roof on a home about six miles east of Decatur. We carried the membrane up and over the parapet walls and formed every inside and outside corner. Parapets and wall flashings are where flat roofs usually leak, so that's where the time goes. The same skills carry over to commercial roofing in Decatur: TPO, modified bitumen, coatings and metal buildings.
After a storm: what we do
- 24/7 response. Call (817) 733-9228 any time to report a leak or get a tarp on.
- Free inspection with a digital photo report. Every inspection customer gets a free digital photo report. We check every slope, the soft metals, flashings and the attic where there are leak signs.
- Straight answer. If there's no storm damage, we say so.
- Adjuster meeting. We meet your adjuster on the roof. Texas law requires you to pay your deductible, and we never waive or rebate it. We are not public adjusters.
- A better roof back. Metal, or impact-rated shingles at Class 3 or better.

Metal or Class 4 shingles? A quick Decatur comparison
| 24- or 26-gauge standing seam | Class 4 impact-rated shingles | |
|---|---|---|
| Hail | Doesn't crack or lose granules, though very large hail can dent it | Highest UL 2218 impact class, but it can still bruise in very large hail |
| Fasteners | Hidden under the seam | Nailed under the shingle above |
| Look | Clean modern lines that suit ranch, farmhouse and custom homes | Traditional, and the easiest fit with most HOA rules |
| Insurance credit | Depends on the product rating and your insurer | Texas insurers must offer a credit for UL 2218 roofs, and the amount varies |
| Best for | Owners staying long-term, acreage, lake and custom homes | Subdivisions, tighter HOA rules, budget-conscious upgrades |
We can't promise any insurance discount. After a qualifying install we fill out TDI Form PC068 for you. See metal vs. Class 4 shingles for the full comparison.
The kinds of Decatur properties we roof
Homes near the square and in older neighborhoods. These are often steep roofs with additions, dormers and a few roofs' worth of history. We tear off to the deck, replace bad decking, and rebuild the flashings at walls and chimneys instead of reusing tired metal.
Newer subdivisions. Builder-grade roofs are coming due, many of them early because of hail. HOA rules matter here, and we help you put together the product and color information your HOA asks for.
Acreage and ranch properties. A house, a shop and a barn, sometimes a barndominium. We match colors across buildings and pick the right panel for each one. See barndo, shop and ag roofs.
Businesses and churches. Low-slope membranes, metal buildings and coatings, with 24/7 leak response. See commercial roofing in Decatur.
Questions worth asking any Decatur roofer
- What gauge is the metal, and who forms the panels?
- Will your own crew do the work, or a subcontractor?

- What happens to the flashings: new, or reused?
- Who do I call if it leaks at 2 a.m.?
Our answers: 24 or 26 gauge, formed on our own roll formers; our own crew; a workmanship warranty from 10 years up to lifetime, depending on the job; a free digital photo report; new flashings; and a 24/7 line at (817) 733-9228. For more, read questions to ask before you sign.
