Quick comparison
| System | Fasteners | Typical use | Upkeep to plan for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standing seam | Hidden (clips under the seam) | Homes, lake houses, accent roofs | Low. Check flashing and sealants at inspections. |
| R-panel / PBR | Exposed screws with washers | Shops, barns, barndos, budget-friendly homes | Washers age in the sun, so plan on periodic screw checks. |
| Stone-coated steel | Mostly hidden | Homes that want a shake, tile or shingle look | Low. Walk on it carefully. |
| Metal shingles / tile | Hidden, interlocking | HOA neighborhoods, traditional homes | Low |
This table describes the types of systems in general. Our standing seam and R-panel are 24- or 26-gauge, and every metal roof we install is Class 4 impact rated. Finishes and warranties depend on the product you choose, and we'll spell them out in your written quote.
What we check before quoting metal
- Roof pitch, since some panels need a minimum slope
- Deck and framing condition, and whether you want to tear off the old roof or go over it where code and the manufacturer allow
- Ventilation, underlayment, and condensation control, which matter a lot on shops and barndos
- Wind exposure on lake lots and open ranch land
- Color and finish. Ask us about Galvalume and painted finishes.

Metal or Class 4 shingles?
Both are good answers in hail country, for different reasons. Read the metal vs. Class 4 shingles guide.
Commercial roof maintenance packages
We offer commercial roof maintenance packages built around your building. What goes into a package depends on the roof system, its age and its condition, so we look at the roof first and then put together a plan that fits it, rather than selling one fixed package to every building.
