Standing seam cost

What a Standing Seam Metal Roof Costs, and Why

We won't post a per-square price, because no honest number fits every roof. What we can do is show you exactly what moves the price of a standing seam roof, then give you a free, itemized written estimate for yours. We form our standing seam panels in-house on our own roll formers and standing seam machine, and our own crew installs them. Our panels are 26-gauge and Class 4 impact rated.

The eight things that set the price

  1. Roof size. Measured in squares (100 sq ft). Bigger roofs spread setup costs, but material scales with area.
  2. Pitch and height. Steep or tall roofs need more safety equipment and slower, careful work.
  3. Complexity. Every valley, hip, dormer, chimney and skylight adds custom trim and labor. A simple gable is the lowest cost per square; a cut-up roof is the highest.
  4. Tear-off. Removing one or more layers of shingles, plus disposal, is part of most re-roofs.
  5. Deck repairs. Rotted or soft decking found during tear-off is replaced. We photograph it and tell you before we do it.
  6. Underlayment. Metal roofs in Texas heat call for high-temperature synthetic underlayment.
  7. Panel and finish. Seam profile, panel width, and paint system (Galvalume vs. painted finishes) all change material cost.
  8. Trim and flashings. Ridge, eave, rake, and wall flashings are formed to match. Color-matched pipe flashings and vents add a cleaner finish.

Why forming in-house matters for your price

We run our own roll formers and standing seam machine, so panels are made to the exact length of your roof. That means no end laps on most runs, less waste, and no waiting on an outside shop's schedule.

Standing seam vs. the alternatives

Standing seam usually costs more up front than R-panel or Class 4 shingles. In return you get hidden fasteners and no screws to re-check over the life of the roof. Our metal vs. Class 4 guide lays out the tradeoffs.

What your estimate includes

  • Measurements and photos from a roof inspection. Every inspection comes with a free digital photo report, so you see what we see.
  • Every line item: tear-off, decking allowance, underlayment, panels, trim, flashings
  • Panel gauge, profile and color in writing
  • Residential warranty: a 10-year transferable workmanship warranty, with manufacturer warranties up to lifetime. Manufacturer coverage depends on the product and brand, and on the project qualifying for that manufacturer's program. We put the exact warranty for your roof in writing.

Certified, with 30 years installing every major roofing brand, a family roofing business going back 75 years, and over $80 million in completed roofing projects. 5.0 stars on Google at all three of our offices.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a standing seam metal roof cost in Texas?

It depends on size, pitch, complexity, tear-off, deck condition, underlayment, panel profile and finish, and trim. We do not quote a flat price per square because roofs vary too much. We give a free, itemized written estimate after inspecting the roof.

Is standing seam more expensive than R-panel?

Usually, yes. Standing seam uses concealed clips and more custom trim. R-panel has exposed screws and is the value choice for shops, barns and many homes.

Can you put standing seam over my shingles?

Sometimes, where code and the panel manufacturer allow it, but we usually recommend tear-off so we can check the deck. We will explain both options in your estimate.

What gauge do you use?

Our standing seam is 26-gauge, Class 4 impact rated, and formed in-house on our own equipment.
