What usually fails on Decatur roofs
Decatur has a mix of roofs: older homes near the square with several layers of history, newer subdivisions with builder-grade shingles, and acreage properties with metal shops and barns. Each one fails in its own way.
- Builder-grade shingles: wind-lifted tabs, hail bruising, granule loss and pipe boots that crack in the sun.
- Older homes: tired flashing at walls and chimneys, soft decking, and valleys patched one too many times.
- Metal shops and barns: worn screw washers, rusted laps, loose ridge cap and failed sealant. We form 24- and 26-gauge panels on our own roll formers, so a damaged run can be replaced, not just caulked.
- Flat and low-slope roofs: seams, drains and parapet walls. We've documented flat-roof repairs on a home about six miles east of Decatur before we replaced it in white TPO.
- Tile, slate and specialty shingles: cracked or slipped pieces and worn underlayment.
How a repair call works
- Call any hour. If water is getting in, we tarp first. Tarping is priced by the size of the area, the pitch and the number of stories. When the damage is part of an insurance claim, the tarp is included in the claim. Otherwise small jobs carry a minimum charge.
- Leak tracing. We follow the water from the stain back to where it actually enters, which is often a flashing or penetration, not the spot right above.
- Photos and a written price before work starts. Every inspection comes with a free digital photo report, so you see what we see.
- The repair, then photos of the finished work.
When your shingle has been discontinued
Shingle lines get discontinued all the time, and on an older roof the exact shingle often can't be bought anymore. We can make a temporary repair to stop the leak with the closest match we can get. Be aware that many newer homeowner policies exclude matching, or replacement of the whole roof, when a shingle is discontinued, so read your policy. We document the discontinued shingle and the damage with photos for your claim. We don't deal or negotiate with your insurance company; that conversation stays between you and your insurer.
Repair or replace?
If the damage is isolated and the roof has years left, we repair it. If the roof has been hit by hail more than once or keeps leaking in new places, we'll show you why and walk you through replacement options, including impact-rated shingles and metal. NOAA recorded 2-inch hail at Decatur on March 26, 2017, and 3-inch hail at Boyd, about seven miles south, on April 8, 2024.
Insurance
We document the damage with photos and measurements for your claim. We don't adjust or negotiate claims; you work the claim with your insurance company. Texas law requires you to pay your deductible, and we never waive or rebate it.
We're certified with Johns Manville, GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning and Atlas. We've done jobs from about $1,000 to multi-million-dollar projects. Snow Roofing & Exteriors is A+ rated on the BBB. 5.0 stars on Google at all three offices: Bridgeport (86 reviews), Decatur (13 reviews) and Rhome (3 reviews).
How fast we respond
We offer same-day response in almost every case, and we answer leak and storm calls 24/7. If water is coming in, we tarp first.
Signs your roof needs a repair
- A ceiling stain, or a stain that grows after each rain
- Shingles, tabs or ridge caps on the ground after wind
- Granules piling up in gutters or at downspouts
- Dented gutters, vents or flashing after hail (soft metal dents are a hail record)
- On metal roofs: screws backing out, rust at laps or cut edges, loose ridge cap or trim
- Daylight or damp insulation in the attic
Look from the ground or a window. Please don't climb on a wet or storm-damaged roof; that's our job.
What a repair costs, and why we don't post a price list
Some roofers post flat repair price ranges. We'd rather quote your actual roof, because the same leak can be a quick fix or a bigger job depending on a few things:
| Factor | Why it changes the price |
|---|---|
| Access and height | Two-story and hard-to-reach areas take more setup and safety work. |
| Pitch | Steep roofs need more safety gear and slow the work down. |
| Roof age and condition | Brittle shingles or tired metal can break around the repair area. |
| Roof type | Slate, tile and specialty shingles cost more to match and set than standard shingles. |
| Hidden damage | Soft decking found under the repair adds work, and we show you photos before doing it. |
You get a written price before work starts. Small jobs carry a minimum charge.
While you wait for us

Permits and HOA approval in Decatur
- Permit: the City of Decatur requires a re-roof permit, and we pull it before work starts.
- HOA approval: if you have an HOA, we handle it start to finish, including the color and product submittals and the approval paperwork.
Residential warranty: a workmanship warranty from 10 years up to lifetime, depending on the job, with manufacturer warranties up to lifetime.
