Decatur's storm history
NOAA recorded 2-inch hail at Decatur on March 26, 2017 and 3-inch hail at Boyd on April 8, 2024, about seven miles south of town. Hail that size can bruise shingles in ways you can't see from the yard, and bruised shingles are often where leaks start a year or two later.
Builder-grade roofs and hail
Decatur has added thousands of residents since 2020, and many newer homes have builder-grade shingles with no impact rating. Those are usually the first roofs to fail in a hailstorm. When we replace one, we don't put the same thing back. Every shingle roof we install is Class 3 impact-rated or better, with Class 4 available.
Our storm inspection
- We check every slope for bruising, fractures and granule loss
- We look at soft metals (vents, gutters, downspouts) to gauge hail size and direction
- We check ridge, hip and starter courses, plus flashings and penetrations
- We look for wind damage: creased, lifted or missing shingles
- We check the attic and decking where we see leak signs
Every inspection comes with a free digital photo report, so you see what we see. If the roof is fine, we'll say so.
Insurance, the honest way
We meet your adjuster on the roof and show them exactly what we found, slope by slope. Texas law requires you to pay your insurance deductible, and a contractor may not waive, absorb or rebate it. We never will. We also aren't public adjusters: we document the damage, meet your adjuster on the roof, and build our scope from what we actually find.
Replacement options in Decatur
| Option | Why Decatur owners pick it |
|---|---|
| Standing seam metal | Won't crack or lose granules, with hidden fasteners and 26 gauge |
| Class 4 shingles | Highest UL 2218 impact class, HOA-friendly looks, may qualify for an insurer credit |
| Designer shingles | Slate or shake look on larger homes, Class 3 minimum |
| Stone-coated steel | Steel base with a textured look |
Texas insurers must offer a credit for UL 2218-rated roofs, but each company sets the amount. We fill out TDI Form PC068 after a qualifying install. We can't promise a discount, so ask your insurer for their figure in writing.
