The cedar or slate look, without the cedar or the weight
Highland Park is a 2.2-square-mile residential town about four miles north of downtown Dallas, surrounded by Dallas and University Park, with about 8,764 residents (Census estimate). Its land was bought in 1889 for development along Turtle Creek, and many homes date from the early and middle 1900s. Cottage, Tudor and colonial houses here were often built with wood shake or slate, and owners who want to keep that look ask us about composite: Enviroshake for the cedar-shake look without wood upkeep, and Enviroslate for a slate look without the weight of quarried stone.
Blake Snow is a certified Enviroshake installer and Enviroshake representative. Enviroshake advertises that its products must be installed by a Factory Trained Installer and registered to qualify for the manufacturer's transferable 50-year limited lifetime material warranty. We install to Enviroshake's guide and handle the registration paperwork.
Enviroshake, Enviroslate or EnviroShingle?
| Collection | Look | Where it fits in Highland Park |
|---|---|---|
| Enviroshake | Composite cedar-shake profile that weathers toward a natural gray | Cottage, Tudor and traditional homes that had wood shake |
| Enviroslate | Slate look at a lighter weight than stone | Homes where natural slate is too heavy for the framing, or additions next to a slate main roof |
| EnviroShingle | Enviroshake's third residential line | We bring samples of each to compare on the house |

A real Enviroshake project we completed
Our crews installed Enviroshake on a roughly 25,000 sq ft ranch estate in Clay County, paired with standing seam we formed in-house on the board-and-batten wing and low-slope sections. That project is in Clay County, not Highland Park, but the hard parts are the same on a Park Cities home: transitions from shake to metal, hips, chimneys and copper or metal accents over porches and bays.
Hail near the Park Cities
NOAA's Storm Events Database lists 10 reports of golf-ball size or larger hail within about 10 miles of Highland Park from 2016 through September 2026, the largest 2.5 inches near New Hope on June 2, 2017. More recently the Storm Prediction Center logged 1-inch hail 4 miles north-northwest of University Park on May 22, 2026. Enviroshake publishes a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating for qualifying products — the highest class under that test. No roof is hail-proof, but Class 4 is the top rating. After a qualifying install we complete TDI Form PC068 for your insurer. If you file an insurance claim, we document the damage and meet your adjuster on the roof. Texas law requires you to pay your deductible, and a contractor may not waive, absorb or rebate it. We never will.
Permits and neighborhood review
Highland Park issues building permits for roof work, and many streets have expectations about material and color. We provide Enviroshake product sheets, ratings, color charts and samples so you can clear the work with the town and any review before we start.
